- Senator Binay said that a resource person who attended the Senate hearing tested positive for COVID-19

- Some Cabinet and House of Representative members would also be undergoing the 14-day self-quarantine

Some top government and local officials in the Philippines are undergoing self-quarantine after they were exposed to people who tested positive for Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

KAMI learned that other lawmakers and Cabinet secretaries will be going into self-quarantine as part of the government protocols.

According to a report by the Philippine Star, Senator Nancy Binay was exposed to a coronavirus-positive person who attended the Senate hearing of the Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture on March 5.

The Senate premises also announced a total lockdown for disinfection.

In a report by the CNN Philippines, here is the list of government officials under 14-day self-quarantine as of posting time:

Senators and House members:

  • Senator Nancy Binay
  • Senator Sherwin Gatchalian
  • Navotas City Rep. John Rey Tiangco

Cabinet members

  • Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea
  • Finance Secretary Sonny Dominguez
  • Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade
  • Transportation Asec. Goddes Hope Libiran
  • BCDA President Vince Dizon


  • Manila Mayor Isko Moreno
  • Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte
  • Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco

As previously reported by KAMI, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian announced that he would be going into self-quarantine after he interacted with a resource person who recently tested positive for COVID-19 during the Senate hearing.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 49 coronavirus cases in the Philippines as of posting time. However, the second death related to the virus was also announced on Wednesday night.
