Moira dela Torre, one of the most streamed singers in the Philippines, was set to sing a unique version of the song Reflection for the upcoming live-action film Mulan.

Disney Philippines recently revealed on social media that the Kapamilya singer was tapped to sing the local version of the theme song originally sung by Lea Salonga.

“Moira Dela Torre, a warrior in her own right and a true voice of her generation, has been chosen to sing her unique take on the beloved song ‘Reflection’ from Disney’s Mulan,” it announced.

According to an ABS-CBN report, Moira said she both felt excited and nervous when she learned about the project offered to her.

“It really felt like a full circle, because ‘Reflection’ is the first song I ever had to learn in full, because I had to sing it for a special number for our church's second anniversary. It was basically what opened the door for me to start loving music,” the singer-songwriter said.

“It’s very cool because this happened. It’s crazy. I wouldn’t have believed that I would get to work with Disney for something as big as this,” Moira shared.

“It’s such a great opportunity, and I’m very grateful for it,” she added.

It can be recalled that Lea first performed the track for the 1998 Walt Disney animated movie Mulan. Its studio version was then recorded by American singer Christina Aguilera in the same year.

Moira also shared that she was terrified of being compared with Lea and Christina, but just like the character Mulan and the two singers, she said she just needed to be true to herself.

“Actually, at first, to be honest, I was terrified, but if there’s one thing that I learned from Mulan, Lea Salonga, and Christina Aguilera, it’s really being true to myself. They made it to that stage because they were true to themselves and I feel very empowered by that.”

“I was actually expecting it to have a lot of rules, but when I got into the studio, they just said, ‘We just want Moira,’” she recalled.

Disney’s live-action Mulan movie will be shown in Philippine cinemas on March 25.
