- Bayan said that it should be considered illegal after the Visiting Forces Agreement was terminated
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. got his social media account suspended on Monday.
KAMI learned that the country’s top diplomat violated a rule on a social media platform.
In a report by the Philippine Star (authored by Patricia Lourdes Viray), Locsin’s account was locked after he tweeted against an activist group.
"These are f***** Communists. You shoot them. You don't listen to them," Locsin reportedly tweeted on March 5.
Bayan secretary-general Renato Reyes Jr. shared a screenshot that Twitter notified him regarding Locsin’s tweet.
“Teddyboy Locsin, DFA secretary, has his Twitter account locked for this offensive and threatening tweet accusing Bayan as communists that deserve to be shot,” Reyes said.
“Will not share his abusive tweet here. It is enough that we fight back against those who wish to silence dissent,” she added.
Reyes further explained that Locsin reacted over the statement of Bayan on the Balikatan exercises.
According to the GMA News Online, Bayan believed that the presence of US troops in the Philippines for the Balikatan exercises should be considered illegal following the termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).
As reported by the ABS-CBN News, Reyes welcomed the action of Twitter against Locsin.
“For so long, Locsin thinks he can get away with anything. But when he threatens harm on activists merely expressing their views, we will have to draw the line and fight back,” he said.
In a report by KAMI before, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered to terminate the VFA with the United States.
