Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro has confirmed the city’s first case of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) on Monday.

KAMI learned that Teodoro said that the patient is an 86-year-old American who is a resident of Marikina.

In a report by the Manila Bulletin (authored by Jhon Aldrin Casinas), Teodoro clarified that the case does not involve local transmission because the patient has a travel history to South Korea.

According to a report by the Philippine Star, Teodoro conducted an emergency meeting with city workers and teachers on Monday after the first case of the coronavirus was confirmed in the city.

The Marikina mayor earlier suspended the classes in the city for three days to give way to massive disinfection in public spaces and schools.

As reported by ABS-CBN News, Teodoro suspended the Palarong Pambansa 2020 that is supposed to happen from May 1 to May 9 due to the coronavirus scare.

He also confirmed that the patient who tested positive was among the 10 cases that the Department of Health (DOH) has recently reported.
