The World Health Organization (WHO) warned people that the deadly Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) could spread through cash.

KAMI learned that WHO advised the public of using cashless transactions or online payments instead as much as possible.

As reported by Yahoo! News (authored by Kalila Sangster), a spokesperson for WHO claimed that the coronavirus could be carried on the surface of the cash for several days.

On that note, the Bank of England also acknowledged that banknotes or cash could carry bacteria or viruses. Therefore, frequent hand washing is strongly advised.

“'We know that money changes hands frequently and can pick up all sorts of bacteria and viruses,” the spokesperson told The Telegraph.

In a tweet posted by China Daily, a bank in Sichuan province in China purchased a disinfecting cabinet to sterilize cash as an attempt to stop the coronavirus from spreading.

In a report by the Daily Mail UK, the government of China started disinfecting and locking away used Chinese yuan to prevent coronavirus from spreading.

Starting last month, some banks already began using ultraviolet light to kill viruses and keep it away for two weeks.
