An online post has claimed that the Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis and his two aides tested positive for the deadly Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

However, KAMI learned that the claim was false and misleading the people.

In a report by Rappler, a netizen shared on social media that Pope Francis showed “coronavirus-like” symptoms after he canceled a mass in Rome.

“Vatican confirms Pope Francis and two aides test positive for Coronavirus,” it read in the headline.

Rappler reported that the Vatican denied the speculations that Pope Francis has novel coronavirus.

"No evidence to suggest a diagnosis of anything other than a slight ailment," a Vatican spokesperson said.

According to Bloomberg, the 83-year-old pontiff was seen coughing during the Ash Wednesday Mass.

Pope Francis then canceled a planned mass in Rome after he called for solidarity with those infected with coronavirus around the world.

As reported by Bloomberg, it was the first time that Pope Francis has ever canceled an event in his seven-year papacy.

The concern regarding the pontiff’s health came after the coronavirus outbreak hit Italy and infected more than 800 people and took the lives of 52 people as of March 2, Monday.

Pope Francis was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and his papacy started in March 2013. He already lost a lung during his teenage years due to a respiratory illness.
