A report claimed that ABS-CBN has far fewer employees compared to what the company said.
KAMI learned that the ABS-CBN broadcasting company said that 11,000 employees might be affected should the shutdown pushes through.
In a report by The Manila Times, a letter from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay to Solicitor General Jose showed that the network only has more than 4,000 regular employees.
A copy of the letter dated February 21, 2020, was obtained by The Manila Times.
In the BIR Form 160CF or the “Annual Information Return of Income Taxes Withheld on Compensation and Final Withholding Taxes,” there were only 4,401 employees recorded under the ABS-CBN Corp. and ABS-CBN Convergence Inc.
The document reportedly showed that ABS-CBN only has 4,322 employees, while ABS-CBN Convergence Inc. has 79 employees.
However, sources close to ABS-CBN said that most of the workers were “project-based” or “talents.”
In a previous report by KAMI, a video claimed that the protesters who joined the rally of ABS-CBN were allegedly paid P10,000. However, the claim has been debunked and it was reported false.
The franchise renewal of ABS-CBN is still pending in the Congress after President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly said that he would oppose the renewal.
