A college program for electronic sports (e-sports) is now in the works in a university in Manila.

KAMI learned that e-sports agency Tier One Entertainment and Lyceum of the Philippines University have been working together to finish the draft curriculum for Bachelor of Science in E-Sports.

In a report by the GMA News Online, Tier One and Lyceum intend to pass the draft curriculum to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in March.

“We are weeks away from reaching one of the biggest milestone in Philippine esports history,” e-sports veteran Tryke Gutierrez said on Facebook.

“In the recent years, multiple universities around the world have opened their institutions to esports courses and as one of the biggest esports market in Asia, this is Philippines' turn to take that leap,” he added.

Gutierrez explained that the proposed 4-year course will have two tracks including game design and e-sports management.

The e-sports veteran also explained that this would be a great opportunity to spread more awareness about the e-sports industry.

“To the future students of this course, this is a golden opportunity to show our society that gaming is not a waste of time,” he explained.

“I'm giving you a heads up that this course is not going to be easy, it's not going to be just about fun and games," he added.

Should the curriculum gets approved, the program could provide more job opportunities for people interested to work in the e-sports industry.
