Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat has announced that there will be a nationwide sale in the country to attract more tourists amid the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) scare.

KAMI learned that aside from seat sales and lowered hotel rates, all the malls in the Philippines would be participating in the month-long “great sale.”

In an interview with Romulo-Puyat in ANC’s Headstart, she explained that the nationwide sale was patterned from the “great sale” abroad wherein people or tourists fly in to shop.

“This March, we’re going to have a nationwide sale. All the malls, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be participating,” the tourism secretary said.

“We actually planned this months ago but we decided to continue it for the whole month of March,” she added.

Romulo-Puyat also mentioned that the project was green-lit by the Department of Health (DOH) as long as precautionary measures are in place.

"Again, with the Department of Health, as long as precautionary measures are in place it's okay to have that nationwide sale," she said.

Before entering the mall, shoppers will be screened for body temperature and disinfectants like alcohol will be made available.

However, the tourism secretary advised people to refrain from going to the malls if they are not feeling well.
