Senator Franklin Drilon has finally submitted on February 17 a joint resolution that seeks to extend the franchise of ABS-CBN until the end of 2022.

KAMI learned that the action was taken in the midst of the threat that the giant network will be facing closure when its franchise expires on March 30.

The Congress has yet to finalize or take measures about the renewal of the said franchise and there are only 12 sessions left before it adjourns on March 14.

The Senate Minority Leader recognized the need for a thorough review or assessment of the situation, thus the joint resolution has been filed.

However, he mentioned that thousands of employees will get affected by the network’s possible closure if no one is going to initiate a move for its franchise renewal.

“Both the Senate and the House of Representatives need additional time to review, assess and determine whether or not ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation to determine compliance with the terms and conditions of its franchise,” Drilon quipped.

“On March 30, 2020, more than 11,000 families will go home jobless and millions of viewers will be affected if we do not act on this resolution immediately. I therefore urge for the immediate passage of this resolution,” he added.

In a previous article by KAMI, Robin Padilla said “no one is above the law” while talking about the Kapamilya network’s franchise renewal issue.

Franklin Drilon is one of the most prominent Senators in the Philippines. He served as the Senate President from 2001 to 2006 and 2013 to 2016.
