- A social media post has claimed that the Philippine government issued a quarantine order to travelers from 23 countries
- The post said that the “health advisory” was issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)
- However, it has been reported that the claim was false and misleading the people
- The DILG has debunked the claim and clarified the issue regarding the quarantine order
An online post has claimed that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered to quarantine all travelers from 23 different countries amid the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) scare.
However, KAMI learned that the claim was false and just misleading the people.
In a report by French news agency Agence France-Presse, the post showed that the “health advisory” was a memorandum issued by the DILG.
“Amended guide to action against the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease,” it read in the post.
“Strict implementation of the 14-day quarantine of persons arriving from a 2019 nCoV affected countries,” it added.
The post also mentioned that the government would be starting to quarantine passengers coming from the following countries:
- South Korea
- Italy Russian Federation
- Sri Lanka
Agence France-Presse reported that the DILG has dismissed the claim and said that the post was “fake news.”
“BE INFORMED | An infographic is being widely shared on social media claiming that the DILG has imposed a 14-day quarantine on travelers arriving from 20+ countries affected by the novel Coronavirus,” it read in the statement of DILG.
DILG also clarified that as of their posting time, only travelers from China, Hong Kong, and Macau are required to go through the 14-day quarantine.
“We would like to clarify that the said infographic was not issued by this Department and that our policy, as of today, is that the strict implementation of the 14-day quarantine provided in DILG Memo Circular 2020-023 (Amended Guide to Action against the 2019 Novel Coronavirus) refer only to travelers from China, Hong Kong and Macau. All other travelers from other nCoV-affected countries may undergo voluntary quarantine,” it said.
The COVID-19 is an acute respiratory disease that was first reported in Wuhan, China. It has recently killed more than 1,700 people in mainland China.
