President Rodrigo Duterte urged the members of the press to report the truth even if it would destroy him.

KAMI learned that the President made the statement following the filing of quo warrant petition against ABS-CBN.

In a report by the CNN Philippines, the President graced the oath-taking of the new officers of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) on Wednesday.

“Ako ang hinihingi ko is simply the truth. If the truth will destroy me, so be it. Huwag kayong mag-isip-isip ng kung ano,” Duterte said.

“If the truth will...masisira ako, that's the price of being in public service,” he added.

The President said that the media should continue reporting on issues such as corruption and deals with Maynilad and Manila Water. However, Duterte also warned media from abusing broadcast privileges.

“While our Constitution upholds the freedom of the press, the function of broadcast is a privilege granted by government, it is imbued with the best interest of our nation and our people. We will not tolerate any abuse of the privilege,” the President said.

“I trust that you will use the power of media to inform, entertain, educate, persuade, and promote the welfare of the people,” Duterte added.
