The Office of the Solicitor General has filed a quo warranto against the country’s leading network, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.

KAMI learned that ABS-CBN has released a statement following the filing of the petition.

In a report by the GMA News Online (authored by Nicole-Anne Lagrimas and Julia Mari Ornedo), Solicitor General Jose Calida said that the government has to end the “abusive practices” of the network.

“We want to put an end to what we discovered to be highly abusive practices of ABS-CBN benefitting a greedy few at the expense of millions of its loyal subscribers. These practices have gone unnoticed or were disregarded for years,” Calida said.

Calida claimed that ABS-CBN has been charging fees to its consumers by operating a pay-per-view channel in ABS-CBN TV Plus and KBO Channel “without” the approval by the National Telecommunications Commission.

However, in a statement released by the ABS-CBN, the network insisted that they complied with all the requirements and that they did not violate the law.

“We reiterate that everything we do is in accordance with the law. We did not violate the law. This case appears to be an attempt to deprive Filipinos of the services of ABS-CBN,” it read in their statement.
