Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has announced that the local government of Manila will be distributing free masks to public school students.
KAMI learned that the distribution came following the announcement of the Department of Health (DOH) regarding the first confirmed case of 2019 novel coronavirus.
In a report by GMA News Online, Moreno urged the parents to ensure that their children wear masks most especially when in public places.
"Ang akin lamang po pakiusap, gamitin ninyo na itong parang baon sa inyong mga anak. At ibilin niyo, lalo sa mga maliliit na bata, na lagi nila susuotin kapag sila ay nasa labas," Moreno said.
The Manila mayor also warned stores in the capital city that overprice face masks. He said that such stores will be held “criminally liable.”
"Those stores in Manila, please do not enrich yourselves economically and take advantage of the situation. Ang virus ho na corona ay walang pinipili," Moreno said.
“If you do that, you deprive somebody of the capacity to acquire one because tinaasan niyo ang presyo. Kapag siya ang hahawa, the chances are mahahawa ka rin because you are part of the problem. You are not part of the solution," he added.
In a previous report by KAMI, the Department of Health confirmed that the 38-year-old Chinese woman that has coronavirus was admitted at the San Lazaro Hospital in Manila.
The 2019 novel coronavirus was first reported in Wuhan, China. As of posting time, there are about 56 people in the Philippines under observation for suspected coronavirus.
