Pres. Duterte does not agree on banning PH-China flights amid coronavirus scare

- President Rodrigo Duterte said that he is not keen on banning the flights between the Philippines and China

- He mentioned that it would be difficult since China has not yet suspended flights in their country

- President Duterte mentioned that the government is preparing for the worst given the situation

- The health department also said that China might question it if the government will impose a ban on travelers

President Rodrigo Duterte has maintained his perspectives on banning flights between the Philippines and China even if there is an on-going 2019 novel coronavirus scare.

KAMI learned that Duterte also mentioned that the government is ready to repatriate Filipinos in Wuhan amid the outbreak.

In a report by CNN Philippines (authored by Janine Peralta), the President explained that the government cannot easily suspend flights.

"Mahirap 'yang ano, sabihin mong you suspend everything because they are not also suspending theirs and they continue to respect the freedom flights that we enjoy," the President said.

"We are always conscious of our citizen their health and if they are going home, we are ready to ferry them back to the Philippines but all precautions must be in place,” Duterte added.

President Duterte mentioned that the government is preparing for the worst amid the coronavirus outbreak.

“We are just preparing, maybe for the worst,” President Duterte said.

The Department of Health (DOH) is eyeing to ban travelers from China. However, they said that China might question it.

“If we do this, then the concerned country — China in this case ​—​​​​​​ might question why we're not doing the same for other countries that have reported confirmed cases of novel coronavirus," Duque said.

As previously reported by KAMI, the health department said that Japan would be helping the Philippines in testing people suspected with novel coronavirus.
