The world was shocked upon learning the tragic death of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant when Los Angeles-based celebrity-gossip site TMZ first reported about it.

KAMI learned that the authorities took a swipe at the site for publishing the death without the police getting the chance to inform the families of the victims first.

In a report by CNN (authored by Oliver Darcy), Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva called out the site as he was explaining why they were not able to confirm the identities of the people involved in the crash immediately.

"It would be extremely disrespectful to understand that your loved one ... perished and you learn about it from TMZ," he said.

“That is just wholly inappropriate,” he added.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles County Undersheriff Tim Murakami also talked about allowing authorities to notify the loved ones of the victims first before the media announces the tragedy to the public.

“I am saddened that I was gathering facts as a media outlet reported the Kobe had passed,” he said.

“I understand getting the scoop but please allow us time to make personal notifications to their loved ones. It’s very cold to hear of the loss via media. Breaks my heart,” he added.
