The telecast of the prestigious Grammy Awards on Sunday night was opened in an unusual and emotional fashion.
KAMI learned that some well-known performers paid tribute to Kobe Bryant, the legend who died in a tragic helicopter crash in California.
It was Lizzo who first mentioned the name of the basketball superstar, uttering that the whole night was to honor his greatness and contributions to the sports.
Alicia Keys, the host of the event, also gave a heartwarming message that touched the hearts of celebrities and other personalities inside the Staples Center.
She admitted that the people in the venue were all mourning because of what happened and she also asked them to share their strength and support to the bereaved family.
“Here we are together on music’s biggest night celebrating the artists that do it best,” she quipped.
“But to be honest with you, we’re all feeling crazy sadness right now because earlier today, Los Angeles, America and the whole wide world lost a hero. And we are literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built,” she added.
After delivering a heart-stirring message, Alicia began to sing some lines from the song “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye” with Boyz II Men.
