The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that a case of new coronavirus was reported in Cebu City.
KAMI learned that a 5-year-old kid from Wuhan City was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for suspected novel coronavirus strain.
In a report by the Cebu Daily News, the samples of the patient were already sent to Australia to further examine it.
The DOH said that the kid has a travel history in Wuhan, China, where the new coronavirus was first detected.
The health agency mentioned that the patient had a fever and is still experiencing a cough. However, the patient is currently stable and afebrile.
Some symptoms of the coronavirus infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties.
The DOH also advised to practice frequent hand washing, refrain from having unprotected contact with farm animals, observe proper cough etiquette, avoid close contact to people with flu-like symptoms, and make sure that food is well-cooked.
The agency also shared that they are working with the authorities in China to gather more information about the new infection.
In a previous report by KAMI, a virus similar to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) has already reached South Korea.
