Congresswoman Lani Mercado, in an interview, says presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte has plans of releasing Senators Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, and former president Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo.
Congresswoman Lani Mercado is the wife of Senator Bong Revilla, one of the senators charged with plunder for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Senator Revilla, together with opposition senators Juan "JPE" Ponce Enrile and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada allegedly pocketed kickbacks from an elaborate scheme to divert public funds to fake government projects
In the commemoration of their 30th wedding anniversary, Congresswoman Lani Mercado shared that they are looking at a renewal of vows in what will be their pearl wedding anniversary on May 28.
“I have two weeks to prepare. It’s going to be simple, dito lang syempre hindi naman siya puwedeng lumabas,”
(I have two weeks to prepare. It’s going to be simple, it’s going to be here [in Camp Crame’s custodial section] because he isn’t allowed to leave.)
Mercado said that they had both gone through lots of challenges and tribulations after their silver (25th) wedding anniversary, which they celebrated by renewing their vows in the Shrine of St. Therese of Child Jesus, Pasay City. Thus, they feel the need to renew their vows again.
“Mabuti na yung i-celebrate naming yung 30, at may mga nagsasabi nga sa aming kunin naming ninong ang President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, kasi DU30. Pero wala pang kasiguraduhan yun kung mag-renewal of vows kami.”
(It would be nice to celebrate our 30th, and people have been telling us to ask President-elect Rodrigo Duterte if he can be our godfather, because of his nickname DU30. But nothing’s sure yet.)
The best wedding anniversary gift
Lani is happy for the Davao City mayor’s win, even though she campaigned for Grace Poe back in Cavite. She and her husband have already befriended the presumptive-president.
The congresswoman recalls how, out of all the presidentiables, only Mayor Duterte had plans of releasing Senator Bong, Senator Jinggoy, and even the former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
They are hoping Duterte fulfills his plans, so Senator Bong can finally be set free. Lani said that if it does push through, her husband’s release would be the best wedding anniversary gift they would get.
Newly elected mayor of Bacoor
For now, Lani is focusing on her newfound responsibilities as the mayor of Bacoor. She will begin working on her duties this June 30.
She told interviewers that the time and dedication put into being a mayor will most likely hinder her from going back into showbiz.
“Mas demanding kasi ang trbahao ng mayor. Pwede naman siguro guesting-guesting lang. Hindi ako pwedeng mag-maintain ng soap. Huwag lang masyadong intense na every other day may taping o shooting.” She explained.
(A mayor’s job is much more demanding. I can probably do some guesting, but I can no longer maintain a soap. Just not the really intense shootings that happen every other day or so.)
Apart from the inherent obligations of her office, she also wants to give back to the people who voted for her in the first place
“May mga aayusin pa, e. We will fix our Bacoor district hospital. Nandun pa rin ang education, na ang pangako ko kasi sa kanila, I would like to have one college scholar per family. I hope I could achieve it in three years, yung facelift ng Bacoor.”
(There are still things we need to work out. We will fix our Bacoor district hospital. We still have to look at education – my promise to the people was that I would like to have one college scholar per family. I hope I could achieve it in three years, the facelift of Bacoor.)
