Earlier reports claimed that the Department of Health (DOH) made a statement saying that bras can be used as an alternative for a face mask.
However, the DOH has clarified that bras cannot be used as alternatives.
KAMI learned that in a report by the GMA Network, Health Secretary Francisco Duque has clarified that bras are not porous or there is no enough space for breathing.
Duque explained that a handkerchief or wet face towel is still the best alternatives for a face mask as protection from ashfall.
The health secretary said that the idea of using bras as a face mask was solely the opinion of assistant secretary Ma. Francia Laxamana.
As reported by the Inquirer (authored by Krissy Aguilar), Laxamana welcomed the resourcefulness of the Filipinos.
“Very good, creative, practical way. Kasi worse comes to worst at wala ka talagang makuha, yun na po ang pwede niyong gawin. Meron pa ngang ibang creative ways of doing things. Isa pa po yung kamiseta. Meron po ibang creative, yung bra. Kasi po talagang lahat lumalabas na,” Laxamana said.
