Recently, a chain message regarding SM Mall of Asia (MOA) was being spread among many Filipinos.

However, KAMI learned that the content of the message was false and was misleading the people.

In a report by Rappler, the circulating text message claimed that the foundation of SM MOA has weakened following the eruption of Taal Volcano last Sunday, January 12.

“Guys, avoid niyo din pumunta sa MOA. 1 of the engineers is our family friend and pinatawag sila ng management dahil nasira na ang mga pondasyon sa ilalim causing the water from the bay to enter sa ilalim. Pumping system na lang yung tumutulak pabalik ng water sa bay. Pag nasira ang mga pumps pwedeng magcollapse ang MOA. Please pass,” it said in the message.

The message was also being spread on social media like Facebook and Twitter.

However, the management of SM MOA has issued two different statements and denied the speculations.

“There is no truth to the information circulating on Social Media that the foundation of the Mall of Asia Complex has been compromised,” it read in the statement.

“Moreover, Senior Management has not called for any meetings with Engineering on the said matter. The Mall of Asia Complex is on normal operations,” it added.

“The statement where water will make the building collapse is patently false. We also have rigorous annual checks to ensure the safety of the buildings so at no time will the safety of our customers, tenants and employees be compromised,” it stated.
