A photo of actor Baron Geisler has gone viral online after claiming that he asked ABS-CBN to pay for its debts and taxes.

However, KAMI learned that the claim was false and misleading the people.

In a report by Rapper, Facebook page Eagle Eyes of the Philippines Citizen-Report shared a photo of Baron supposedly holding a placard with text that read:

“Mr. Gabby Lopez of ABS-CBN, kung concern kayo sa mga empleyado mo, bayaran mo ang tax at utang na sinisingil sa inyo ng gobyerno."

The post was published on January 4, 2020. It gained about almost 3,000 engagements, 435 comments, and 1,300 shares.

Rappler conducted a reverse image search and discovered that the photo was taken from a video where Baron appealed for the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.

The original text written in the placard said: “Legislative franchise for ABS-CBN now! #SaveABSCBNworkers - Defend Job Philippines."

In the video, Baron said that the government should consider the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN because about 10,000 people might lose their jobs.

Defend Job Philippines also debunked the claim that Baron asked the network to pay its debts.

For years now, President Rodrigo Duterte strongly opposed the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. The President first threatened to block the renewal when he alleged that the network refused to air his political ads during the 2016 elections.

ABS-CBN is considered as one of the biggest TV networks in the Philippines. It was founded in 1946 and it produced many big stars in the industry since then.
