- An online post has claimed that Andal Ampatuan Jr. was a member of the opposition or the “Liberal Party”
- The post showed photos of Ampatuan Jr. doing the “L” sign that symbolizes the opposition party
- However, the claim of the online post was false and misleading the public
- The Ampatuans were known to be allies of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and members of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD
A social media post has claimed that the Maguindanao massacre masterminds, the Ampatuan brothers, are members of the Liberal party.
However, KAMI learned that the claim was false and misleading the public.
In a report by Rappler, a Facebook page called "Pork Ng Ina Mo" claimed that Andal Ampatuan Jr. who was convicted for the Maguindanao massacre used to be a member of the “Liberal Party.”
“Isn't it wonderful how Dilawans praise the conviction of the Ampatuans, who are members of their political party?” it read in the caption.
The post showed photos of Ampatuan doing the letter “L” sign which means “Liberal.”
It also showed a supposed screenshot of Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s tweet which read:
“Those behind the daily killings in the brutal drug war launched by this Administration should take today’s Ampatuan Massacre Guilty Verdict to heart.
Mass murderers and their enablers must be, will be punished.”
However, Rappler reported that the Ampatuans were members of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s party, Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
In fact, the Ampatuans were kicked out of the party two days after the Maguindanao massacre happened in 2009.
In a report by ABS-CBN News in 2010, Ampatuan said that he would be endorsing former President Noynoy Aquino after a week of saying that they would back former Senator Manny Villar in the presidential race.
However, Aquino said that he never sought for the Ampatuans’ endorsement.
"Siguro joke po yun. Di ko nakakausap yan, di namin hinahabol ang kanilang endorsement,” he said.
As previously reported by KAMI, the Quezon City court has found 3 Ampatuan brothers and others guilty and decided to convict them over the Maguindanao massacre.
The gruesome massacre happened during the filing of the candidacy of Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu. Female relatives of Mangudadatu were headed towards the filing when a large group of armed men meddled in their convoy and led them to three different mass graves.
