As earlier reported, it was December 1, 2019, when his mom died. The TV host managed to write the words "thank you" in his journal the day his mom passed on.

However, with his mom's passing, there were good things that happened. He was able to patch things up with his niece. His experience holding his mom in his arms for the last 10 minutes of her life changed him a lot.

Boy promised his mom that he would take care of his niece, of his family and to be able to do that he will take care of himself.

"That particular 10 min will forever change the way I look at the world, self the way I view life," he said.

Boy Abunda started his hosting career as a host of Show and Tell, a late-night variety talk show with Gretchen Barretto, and Startalk, an entertainment talk show in GMA-7.

However, in 1999, he moved to GMA Network's competitor ABS-CBN where he hosted The Buzz, Private Conversations, Homeboy, Kontrobersyal, SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon and The Bottomline with Boy Abunda, a talk show interview.
