US President Donald Trump has been impeached by the US House of Representatives on Wednesday night (US time).

KAMI learned that the Democratic-led House of Representatives voted for the impeachment of the US President.

In a report by the Al Jazeera, the House approved the two articles related to the impeachment of Trump. The first article was about the abuse of power related to his dealings with Ukraine. Meanwhile, the second article was obstruction of Congress.

It has been reported that the charge of abuse of power was 216-197. However, two Democrats voted against it and one voted present.

Meanwhile, the vote on obstruction of Congress was 229-19. Three Democrats voted against the said article, while one voted present.

Trump becomes the third president of the United States to get impeached. The first one was Andrew Johnson in 1868, and then Bill Clinton in 1998.

What’s next for Trump?

As reported by The Guardian, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi must settle on a team that will be the “impeachment managers.” This will forward the case against Trump to a Senate trial next month.

The Senate is likely to host a trial in January on whether to remove Trump from office or convict him. A two-thirds majority of senators are required to remove Trump from his office.

Trump has commented over the result of the voting related to his impeachment.

"It's so much fun, they want to impeach you. It doesn't really feel like it's happening. And by the way, we did nothing wrong,” he told reporters in Michigan.
