Recently, a strong magnitude 6.9 earthquake jolted Davao del Sur, almost two months after series of quakes rocked some parts of Mindanao.
KAMI learned that the Malacañang has confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte was at home when the earthquake happened on Sunday.
In a report by the Philippine News Agency (authored by Azer Parrocha), Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo has confirmed that President Duterte and his family were “unhurt” following the earthquake.
In a statement, Panelo said that Duterte was with his daughter Kitty, while his partner Honeylet Avanceña was on her way home when the incident happened.
"The President was in his house in Davao City with his daughter Kitty when the earthquake struck. The First Lady Honeylet Avanceña was on her way home when the ground rumbled and moved. She said the car she was riding was swaying. They are unhurt," Panelo said.
In addition, Panelo urged the residents of Davao del Sur to stay calm but remain vigilant as aftershocks are likely to happen.
He also urged the public to stop spreading false information that could cause unnecessary alarm and panic to those living in affected areas.
Presidential Security Group (PSG) commander Jose Eriel Niembra said that the quake did not cause any damage to the house of the President. However, its structural integrity is still being assessed.
Rodrigo Roa Duterte is the current and 16th President of the Philippines. He served as the mayor and vice mayor of Davao City for over 20 years.
