Pinoy pride! The Philippines has scored another big win in the 2019 World Architecture Festival.
KAMI learned that the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 won in the Completed Buildings: Transport category.
In a Facebook post by the Department of Transportation, it was mentioned that the Terminal 2 was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates (IDA) Hong Kong and its principal architect, Winston Shu, in collaboration with world-class Filipino designers Budji Layug and Kenneth Cobonpue.
"The Department of Tourism (DOT) extends its congratulations to the team behind the Mactan Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 as it reaped its latest accolade, taking the top prize in the Completed Buildings-Transport Category at the World Architecture Festival," the DOT said in a statement, as reported by the GMA News Online.
"With Mactan being the second busiest international airport in the Philippines, this architecturally astounding building serves as an important gateway to the Philippines," it added.
In the aforementioned category, the MCIA defeated other airport nominees including Turkey’s Istanbul Airport and Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport.
In a report by CNN Philippines, the world’s largest interactive architectural awards program was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
