American rock star Jon Bon Jovi has put up restaurants on college campuses that charge for free.
KAMI learned that the 57-year-old singer will be opening a third location of his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen in New Jersey.
As reported by the New York Post (authored by Hannah Frishberg), the newest JBJ Soul Kitchen will be opening on January 22 at Rutgers University’s Newark campus.
Aside from being a legendary artist, Bon Jovi has also shown his passion for helping people, most especially those who are in need.
Through the Jon Bon Jovi Foundation, the artist expressed his love for people and food. His foundation aims to “break the cycle of poverty, hunger, and homelessness.”
According to CBS News, the restaurant has no prices on the menu. However, the diners are encouraged to donate $20 to cover someone else’s meal as well. If the person can’t give money, he may opt to donate services like washing dishes.
The idea of the restaurant came from the wife of Bon Jovi, Dorothea Hurley.
"Hunger doesn't look like what your mind's eye might imagine," she said.
"It's the people at your church. It's the kids that go to school with your kids. And I think that was eye-opening for a lot of the community here that said, 'Oh, there's no homeless people here.' And they look around the restaurant, and I say, 'I can name five people right now that I know are homeless in this restaurant right now, but they don't look like what you think they're gonna look like,” she added.
Jon Bon Jovi is the founder and frontman of award-winning rock band Bon Jovi. The band was formed in 1983 and released popular songs like You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin’ On A Prayer, It’s My Life, and Always.
