President Rodrigo Duterte has called for the regularization of e-cigarettes or “vape” use in public.
KAMI learned that President Duterte ordered law enforcers to arrest those who smoke vape in public.
In a report by GMA News Online, the President said that he is eyeing to ban the use of vape and its importation.
“I will ban it, the use and importation.... because it is toxic.... it is not good and contrary to public safety,” Duterte said
“I am now ordering law enforcement agencies to arrest anybody vaping in public.... If you’re smoking now, you will be arrested. I am now ordering law enforcement agencies to arrest anybody vaping in public.... If you’re smoking now, you will be arrested,” he added.
According to ABS-CBN News, Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Archie Gamboa said that the police will start arresting those who use vape in public today, Wednesday.
Recently, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that a 16-year-old female from the Visayas who started smoking vape last March has sustained a lung injury.
The DOH said that the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine has been coordinating with the hospital to gather more specimens for further examination.
