President Rodrigo Duterte has talked about his health and plans to quit his post during a speech at the Malacañan Palace on Tuesday.
KAMI learned from Manila Bulletin (author Genalyn Kabiling) that the President said he would be ready to say goodbye to his post if his family thinks he is no longer capable of fulfilling his duties.
“When I’m no longer coherent, if I cannot articulate now the things that I want to relay to you, then it’s about time that you call the attention of my family, Inday, and say that your father is no longer capable of being President of this Republic. Why? Because he’s not good anymore. Then if my family would say, ‘You retire. Do not wait for the expiration,’” he said.
“‘Di sabihin ko, ‘If I cannot talk to you anymore, if I cannot be of help to you, then it’s about time to say goodbye.’ Until then, and it will come, we just wait,” the President added.
President Duterte also admitted that he has ailments due to his old age, 74 years old.
“Huwag na ninyo akong tanungin na kung may sakit ba ako. Kasi lahat ng 74 years old dito sa Pilipinas — except for a few — lahat may sakit na ‘yan. Mamili ka lang, cancer, hypertension, diabetes, kidney, lung cancer, cancer of the colon karamihan. ‘Yung lahat ng sakit na ‘yan, nandito na sa akin,” the President quipped.
“Matanda na ako eh. Pero nakakapagsalita pa naman ako,” he added.
The President also mentioned that he sustained injuries, hematoma, after his motorcycle accident. He said that he would walk with a limp, but, he has no bone fracture.
In a previous report by KAMI, President Duterte was advised to take a 3-day rest from work. However, the Palace said that the President refused to take a break and planned to work from home instead.
President Rodrigo Duterte is the current and 16th President of the Philippines. He is the oldest and the only septuagenarian to ever assume the post.
